When I was a teen, my mom knew exactly when the weather aired on the news each night. She'd stop whatever she was doing, run into the room, and, for the few minutes during the forcast, she just glowed.
"Mawhm," I'd moan. "We live in California! Why can't you just look out the window?"
"Because, I just LOVE the weather!" She'd reply breathlessly. "I should have been a meteorologist!"
Brad and I started dating when I was 23, so I only had a few years before meeting the second most significant loved one in my life, who "just LOVED the weather."
It's one of the things my mother and husband bonded on.
This is a screenshot of his desktop widgets:

With just a click of the mouse, I can find out both how cold it is and exactly what time the rain will hit, or not, since we're experiencing a drought, as well as who's being struck by thunder and lightning in the Midwest.
The obsession must course through their blood.
Upon discovering that the VCR that we'd thought was permanently broken was actually just jammed with a AA battery (Zip!), the boys suddenly had twice as many videos to watch.
Tizzy found this:

After watching it a few dozen times, Tizzy turned to Brad and said, "I just LOVE the Weather!"

Apparently, it's genetic!
You ought to live in England!
That is awesome! I would say I'm slightly obsessed with the weather. It doesn't run to desktop widgets, but I do check in on it several times a day!
I'm OBSESSED with the weather. Desktop apps, blackberry apps, internet bookmarks.
I watch it as though I can do anything about it!
That's hilarious that you're surrounded by meteorologists! Here in FL, it's either sweltering hot or pouring rain...
My husband is the same way. Me? I don't get it. I mean, I want to know how to dress but beyond that, meh.
that was so great. I LOVE it when kids say that....and when see your parents in their faces and talents.
it's a beautiful thing.......
Oh no! Not weather network connoisseurs ! AHHHHH!
I'm only obsessed when it's

That's so funny! I guess that's how I feel about the internet?
whats bred in the bone.....
Ha ha! That DVD looks fun though! More fun than the widgets...
Is this close to what people mean when they say they can predict the weather because they can feel it in their bones? There's clearly a solid DNA strand going on here!
Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! I had a friend (a mother of a 3 yr old) who one day found an entire grilled cheese sandwich stuck in the "mouth" of her VCR. consider yourself lucky.
Be happy you live in CA; from May-September, I'm checking the NWS Severe Weather Prediction Center daily, looking for storm chase opportunities in my neighborhood ;)
That one ain't genetic; my ma thinks I'm warped LOL...
Clearly passed down through generations. I generally hate the weather report/predictions, but today, I watched the weather channel for like an hour - scary show about possibly freaky big storms!
Well, the weather is interesting!
cool & sweet, like a spring breeze.
There are many times I wish I had paid more attention in science class so I could understand the weather better.
Wow, weather geeks! Can they tell me when all this snow will melt?
They could be interested in worse things.
Okay, the desktop widgets cracked me up! haha! I also never realized that I called my mother mawhm until I saw it spelled out like that.
How sweet. My husband is a bit obsessed with the weather. He gets it from his dad. So far, no noticeable signs that the three year old is developing an attraction to meteorology, but I'm prepared.
We know all about weather here in Melbourne, where we get four seasons in one day!
How funny!
And I thought that it was only Norwegians that all the time talked about the weather.
Every second blog is discussing weather this time of the year. Is Spring comming?
and here we do not go out of bed before we have heard the temp. at 7am
When living in Singapore we knew the weather every day:
Some showers in the afternoon
:)
Love this post!! My mom was a weather fan as well...must be in the California water as she grew up there! Me, too! Now I live many miles away in real "weather"...don't like it anymore...ha! Congrats on your mention in POTD! Well-deserved! I really liked this one!
Funny! I only watch the weather avidly in a heatwave because I must know when the agony will end.
