At first I thought he was going to eat all of the chocolate in one day and then sadly watch as Zip opened his windows until the 24th, but, he actually took it very seriously and has been telling me the date ever since.
He has also gotten very interested in calling people on the phone. Today he called my mom:
"Hello. This is Tizzy. How are you?"
"Oh yes, and Happy New Year to you too."
"Oh YES! It was VERY fun!"
"Well, we went to Samracisco and we went up on the roof, but we could only see a couple of fireworks over the buildings, but it was very fun, and then we drank our drinks and stayed up very very late..."
"Oh no you silly!"
At this point I went in the other room to fold the clothes, but I could still hear the conversation unfolding from the other room:
"No, no you silly! Oh no!"
"No you SILLY!"
"Oh yes she is folding clothes."
"Oh yes, mom's and dad's are very helpful."
"I'm very helpful too. I'm a big boy and very helpful."
"Oh wait. Prisha. Oh dear. Can I call you back?"
"Oh yes, yes, I need to call you back."
"Hang on, just a minute. I'll call you back. I just have to change the calendar."
"Yes. This one says 2009."
"Hang on. I'm going to hang up and change the calendar to one that says 2010, and then I'll call you right back."
"Tizzy?" I call out. "Wait to change the calendar until after you finish your phone call!"
"Oh, Prisha?" He resumes, "My mom says I have to hang up the calendar that says 2010 on it after I finish talking to you."
He continues his conversation with a lot of "Oh no sillies," and "Oh that's quite all rights,"
and then he calls me to the phone.
About an hour later he needs her number again as he's forgotten something very important he needed to tell her.
He runs outside to tell me that the operator has told him to please hang up and try again.
I'm told that he called her once more when I was at the store because he'd forgotten to say goodbye after their last conversation.
Tonight, as I was emailing and reading other blogs I glanced up and noticed the calendar. The new one that says 2010.
Three X's and one large backwards S have blocked out the proceeding two months and two days that fill up the first four blocks in the calendar. January 3rd is ready to go. I have a feeling that "No you silly," I will not be at a loss for what day it is in 2010, for I have my time keeper, rearing to go.

It is so sweet that he calls up his grandma to talk to her. Don't know why that touches me so, but it does. I can't imagine the day when Sophie can call her grandparents by herself, feels light years away. Blink my eyes and it will be here, I'm sure.
Happy new year!
That's amazing to me - both the timekeeping and the phone etiquette. My son still asks me daily, "What day is it?" and runs from the room at the mere suggestion that he use the telephone. (Maybe I should have requested one of those phone calls from Santa? Something to try next December if things don't improve this year.)
think that I really could use a time keeper of my own. I am always wonder the day and my pull off the date calender is still in July from 2009!

Tizzy is a very proper phone conversationalist!
I've got one of those date-checking children too, he needs to keep track of how many sleeps until the next big event. When is Easter?
That is just the sweetest thing:)
Wonderboy got a watch for Christmas and he is constantly telling us what time it is. Which is actually helpful since my watch broke and I am helpless without it!
Happy New Year to you, my dear!
I love it, that's adorable that he's so in tune with time and had to hang up on his grandma to change the calendar. Well, almost hang up.
Graham's been time-conscious lately too, always asking what time the clock says and then what that time means. Snack time, play time, bath time, meal time... every day! Oh, and I've been amazed at his ability to talk to my parents on the phone, he even walks out of the room for privacy.
That's adorable! Can he follow me around all day? I never know the date!
That all sounded very grown up!
A Happy New Year to you and your family!
My kids are pretty shy on the phone. I loved the image of such a long drawn out conversation.
I had to laugh with his obsession with time and dates. My son is going through the same phase. He constantly corrects me when I say it is 8:30, he needs it to be exact and says it is 8:29. And I've even caught him in his room, just staring at his new digital alarm, watching time tick on.
why did that make me cry? not like sob, but get teary? cause it did.
"it's quite all rights" just did me in.
i love a kid or anyone who understands the measure of time.
So sweet! I am sure his Granmomma loves those phone calls too! Cub has no idea about the days on a calendar, but is beginning to try to figure out a clock. I have had many a giggle with this, as he is far from getting it yet, but await the day my little timekeeper tells me the time! I always enjoy your posts... glad to be back in the blogosphere again!
